Has anyone, regardless of faith, ever met a minister/preacher/priest etc. that had a positive influence?

Sinyckel asked:

My father had a very negative impact on me throughout my life, right up until he died. I would even go so far as to say that I hated this man and his convoluted sense of spirituality. He and I argued about his “Christian” beliefs several times while he was trying to convert me, and in during these arguements tended to make himself look less well versed than he thought he was…(all Jews are Christians…) His minister Derrin, who I only met twice, once at diner and once at my sisters wedding, helped by setting him straight in his own faith. I had a great deal of resect for this man as he was genuinely interested in my world view. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a positive interaction with a spiritual leader?

But surely. If there is a higher power, and I know there is, these human vessels, if they be true, are like signposts giving direction in our ultimate destination. Eternity.

No one converts anyone. If Divinity is involved, it is all the doing of that higher entity. Not a force. A person. It is not a religion. It is a relationship with a real and active friend. Even in this horrid time of silence.

Quite a few. God works through different pastors in different ways. One may be fire and brimstone, while another may be a soul saver. I have been to a number of different services and I get a lot out of each service and from each different pastor.

I used to go to church at the Air Force Academy 20 years ago and a priest there was amazing - he used to teach that the real miracle was not the magical stuff but the change in perception about others - the love that replaces the separation. E.g. the ‘loaves and fishes’ miracle is not about physically mulipltying food but, rather, that people were initially reluctant to take out their food because they didn’t want to share. When they saw that a poor boy was willing to take out his small amount of food and share it with everyone, they realized their error and saw love — and the food ‘multiplied’ by everyone being affected and taking out their food to share.
